A Busy but Productive April

On April 1, 2019 the Nelson-Garrettsville Community Cupboard began serving clients at our new location in the Garrettsville YMCA building on Park Avenue. Our clients now make use of the handicap-accessible event entrance at the rear of the building, and register/wait in the convenient lobby.

Community Partnerships

Monthly expenses for rent, phone, and utilities have been greatly reduced through partnerships within our community. Thanks to the the generous support of the Garrettsville Family YMCA, and the Garrettsville Area Chamber of Commerce, our monthly rental fees have been covered through March 31, 2020. This allows us to focus our resources on food purchases for our clients.

New Opportunities for Our Entire Community

Over the winter the NGCC Board met with the Garrettsville Farmers' Market and determined that there were many opportunities available that neither organization could pursue alone. Entering its second year, the Garrettsville Farmers' Market now joins the Garfield Snack Pack program as part of the Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard.

Coming to the 2019 Farmers' Market:

  • A system for providing access to fresh, locally-grown, produce and food products.
  • Programming for cooking, stretching your budget, and getting the most out of groceries you purchase or receive through the Community Cupboard.

Snack Pack Program Expands

Students currently receiving Snack Packs at school will notice a new addition to their bag this May. The new summer voucher program will enable the students to pick up a Snack Pack on distribution days in June, July, and August at the Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard.

    Pancake Breakfasts a Sweet Success

With the tremendous support of the community, the first annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser enabled us to raise almost $5,000 for the NGCC and Garrettsville Farmers' Market.

These funds will be used to purchase food for NGCC clients, create a system to expand access to local produce and products, and develop educational programming to teach attendees how to stretch their food budget/supply.

    Making A Difference

Scout Troop Donates to Families in Need

During their cookie booth sales scouts from Daisy Troop #90829 asked customers if they would like to purchase cookies for the food cupboard. On Monday, April 8, the scouts brought 60 boxes of Girl Scout cookies as well as additional treats and juice boxes that they purchased to donate to families in need.
